About Fetch

Fetch is a Macintosh program for transferring files over networks, such as the Internet, using the File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or SSH File Transfer Protocol (SFTP).

Fetch 5.5.2 has been updated to offer full compatibility with the newly released Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard. This release improves the Quick Look feature introduced in Fetch 5, and adds two new features: a "View as Text" command and SOCKS support for SFTP connections. Fetch 5.5.2 is a Universal binary, compatible with Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, including Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard.

System Requirements

Full compatibility with both Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger.

Downloading Fetch

Fetch is one of Iowa State's Site-Licensed software packages.

If you are faculty, staff or a student at Iowa State, you can download Fetch 5.5.2 from here  (16.8 MB). You will need your Iowa State Net-Id and password to download Fetch from the Iowa State Site-Licensed Software Server.

Installing Fetch

  • Read the "Fetch License" file.
    Continue only if you agree to the terms and conditions of this license. Installing Fetch constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions.

  • Drag the "Fetch" application to /Applications.

Secure FTP

When opening a new connection:

make sure that "Connect using: FTP with GSSAPI" is selected and that the "Enable encryption" checkbox is checked:
