kFTP is a Mac OS X application that will start and stop the kftpd
(Kerberos FTP Proxy) daemon for the user without the user needing to
run kftpd from the command line. kFTP will also quit the kftpd daemon
when the user quits the kFTP application or when the user logs off.
kftpd was written by the University of Washington and ported to Mac OS X
by Iowa State University IT Services. The kFTP application was written
by Rod Eldridge, Iowa State University, IT Services.
If the kftp.dmg image did not mount, double-click on the kftp.dmg
image file that was downloaded.
Drag the kFTP application to either /Applications or /Applications/Utilities.
Starting kFTP
You must already have Keberos tickets before running kFTP.
You can start the kFTP application two different ways, depending on
your needs:
Starting the kFTP Application Manually
Run the kFTP application to start the kftpd daemon. When you quit
the kFTP application, the kftpd daemon will also quit.
Starting the kFTP Application Each Time You Login
Add the kFTP application to your Startup/Login Items under System
Preferences -> Account. Then, each time you login, the kFTP
application will start the kftpd daemon. When you logoff, the kFTP
application will automatically quit the kftp daemon.
Configuring Proxy Settings
After starting kFTP you will need to configure those applications that
will use the kftpd daemon. Specific instructions on how to configure
Dreamweaver MX/2004 and GoLive are shown below. Other applications are
not covered -- if you have instructions for a particular application,
please forward them to
here -- however, common to all applications, the proxy settings for
the Proxy Server and Proxy Port are:
In the Preferences window select Internet from the side menu.
Check the Use FTP Proxy box.
In the Host: field type 127.0.0.1
In the Port: field type 2021
Click the OK button to close the Preferences window.
Note: In GoLive 8.0 (CS2), there is an issue when setting up the new
site server. You will need to click the "Advanced..." button and
de-select the "Use Standard Framework" checkbox.
