can be used to see what issues and problems people have reported. If you have issues or problems with Mac OS X 10.6, please report them to macosx-admin@iastate.edu. Issues and problems that are reported will make their way to this above URL. If you have additional comments to make about already reported issues and problems or if you have solutions to these issues and problems, please send them to the macosx-admin@iastate.edu.
At the meeting we went through the current list of Mac OS X 10.6 issues and briefly discussed each of them. Items to note are:
- attach
- attach requires Rosetta to be installed. Rosetta is an optional install on Mac OS X 10.6. ITS will work on attach to make it a universal binary.
- NetPrint
- NetPrint currently doesn't work on Mac OS X 10.6. The work around is to use PaperCut, which is currently being deployed around campus. PaperCut is intended to replace NetPrint. ITS will look into this issue then time permits.
- telnet
- The Mac OS X 10.6 telnet does not support encryption. Encrypted telnet is required to connect to the isua machines. Rod Eldridge has complied a version of telnet that supports encryption and will soon make it available for download. A separate announcement will be made to the macosx-admin mailing list when the new telnet download is available.
- VirusScan
- VirusScan 8.6 will soon be available for download. A separate announcement will be made to the macosx-admin mailing list when the new VirusScan download is available.
- Zephyr Utility
- The Zephyr Utility's zephyr programs do not work with Mac OS 10.6. Rod Eldridge has complied new zerphyr 3.0 programs for use on Mac OS 10.6 and will soon make them available for download. A separate announcement will be made to the macosx-admin mailing list when the new Zephyr Utility (and zephyr programs) download is available.
In addition, two other items were also mentioned during the discussions:
- PGP
- The current version (9.10) of PGP Whole Disk Encryption for Mac OS X is not supported on Mac OS X 10.6. Support for Mac OS X 10.6 will be available in the next major release of PGP Whole Disk Encryption (10.0).
- Growl
- Do not install Growl 1.1.6 on Mac 10.6. They are working on Growl 1.2 for Mac OS 10.6.
