Apple Education Licensing Program (AELP)

End of Mac Software Collection AELP Site License

When Apple released OS X 10.9 Mavericks they also announced that it, and future OS X upgrades, would be free (see OS X Mavericks Available Today Free from the Mac App Store. They also announced that iLife (iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband) and iWork (Numbers, Pages, Keynote) will be free with any new Mac and for existing users of those applications (see Apple Introduces Next Generation iWork and iLife Apps for OS X and iOS.

Because these are all now free Apple is no longer selling the Mac Software Collection AELP site license. The current Mac Software Collection AELP site license contract for ISU will remain, for versions of the software that were covered at the time of purchase, until it expires on August 25th, 2014. This allows us to continue to redistribute iLife 11, iWork 09 and OS X 10.8 or older on smb://software.iastate.edu until the expiration. After the contract expires we will be required to stop redistributing this software.

We are not allowed to redistribute the recently announced OS X 10.9 Mavericks and the iLife and iWork upgrades on smb://software.iastate.edu. If you need these newer versions you will need to obtain them directly from the Mac App Store. If you want to obtain the free iLife and iWork upgrades it is suggested that you make sure you have iLife 11 and iWork 09 installed on all of your ISU owned Macs, while we still have a site license, so that they will be offered the free upgrades when running Mavericks.

Mac OS X

Mac OS X is available under the Apple Education Licensing Program (AELP) for all Iowa State University faculty and staff. This software can be downloaded from the Software server at smb://software.iastate.edu/aelp using your Iowa State Net-Id and password.

OS X Mavericks is available for free at the Mac App Store.

This software is only licensed to be installed on university owned Apple computers and is only available to Iowa State University faculty and staff. Students are not eligible. Mac OS X Server is not included.

iWork

iWork (includes Numbers , Pages, and Keynote) is available under the Apple Education Licensing Program (AELP) for Iowa State University faculty and staff. This software can be downloaded from the Software server at smb://software.iastate.edu/aelp using your Iowa State Net-Id and password.

This software is only licensed to be installed on university owned Apple computers and is only available to Iowa State University faculty and staff. Students are not eligible.
