Symantec Endpoint Protection is only for use on university-owned computers.
You should uninstall other anti-virus software before installing Symantec Endpoint Protection.

About Symantec Endpoint Protection

Symantec Endpoint Protection combines Symantec AntiVirus with advanced threat prevention in a single agent delivering defense against malware for laptops, desktops and servers.

System Requirements

  • Processor: 64-Bit Intel Core 2 Duo or later
  • Physical RAM: 2 GB of RAM
  • Hard drive: 1 GB of available hard disk space for the installation
  • Operating system: OS X 10.8, 10.9, 10.10, 10.11

Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection

Symantec Endpoint Protection is one of Iowa State’s Site-Licensed software packages.

  • If you are installing on univeristy-owned computers, you can install Symantec Endpoint Protection from smb://software.iastate.edu/software/Symantec/.

  • If you want to install anti-virus software on your personal computer, you should install Sophos Anti-Virus for Mac Home Edition instead.

You will need your Iowa State Net-Id and password to intall this software from the Iowa State University Software Server.

From the “Install” folder:

  • Read the Symantec-Site-License file.
  • Continue only if you agree to the terms and conditions of this license. Installing Symantec Endpoint Protection constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions.
  • Double-click on the .dmg file to mount the Symantec Endpoint Protection disk-image.
  • From the Symantec Endpoint Protection disk-image:
    • Double-click on the Symantec Endpoint Protection Installer file to start the installer.

Creating a Remote Deployment Package

The installer provided is not a pkg installer, but after launching the installer can you go to the Tools menu and select “Create remote deployment package”. This will create a pkg installer that is compatible with most deployment solutions.

Uninstalling Symantec Endpoint Protection

A uninstaller for Symantec Endpoint Protection is also available.

You can uninstall Symantec Endpoint Protection from smb://software.iastate.edu/software/Symantec/.

You will need your Iowa State Net-Id and password to run the uninstaller from the Iowa State University Software Server.

From the “Install” folder:

  • Double-click the “Symantec Uninstaller.app.tgz” to uncompress it.
  • Double-click the resulting “Symantec Uninstaller” app to run the uninstaller.
  • Follow the app instructions to complete the uninstall.
